KOH LANTA
All boat tours
The mangrove on the east side of Koh Lanta, by longtail, on a private wooden raft, or by kayak. Half a day, or just a sunrise.
Half day
Thung Yee Peng is a village on the east coast of Koh Lanta with a protected mangrove behind it. The channels are calm. You see monkeys, birds and fiddler crabs on the mud at low tide.
Three ways to go. A longtail runs through the main channels. A private wooden raft, poled slowly, leaves from Thung Yee Peng pier for a sunrise, a fishing morning or a dinner at sunset. A kayak gets you into the narrow channels.
The raft is the quietest, with the sunrise and the sunset dinner as its two programmes. The kayak is more active and reaches the narrow channels. The longtail is the simplest with children.
On the sunset dinner programme, once it is dark, the plankton lights up when the water moves.
Pickup is around 4:40 and you are back at the hotel by 7:30, in time for a second breakfast.
Koh Chueak, Koh Mook and its Emerald Cave, Koh Ngai, then Koh Ma or Koh Kradan. A full day on the water, by longtail or speedboat, private or join-in.
Two islands of the Mu Ko Lanta National Park, open from October to April, by speedboat or private longtail. Snorkeling stops and lunch on the beach of Koh Rok.
Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, then lunch on Phi Phi Don and an afternoon on Bamboo Island. By speedboat, join-in or private.
A half day on the east side of Koh Lanta. You paddle around the limestone islets of Koh Talabeng, then the longtail takes you to the beach of Koh Bubu.
A half day of fishing the way the island does it: from a longtail off the coast, or from a private wooden raft in the calm waters of Ao Lanta, with lunch cooked on board.
